At Wavelength, we’re always exploring how new technologies can enhance the way we work. Read on to discover how Trish Feehan, our Senior Instructional Designer, collaborates with AI to elevate her work—and why mastering writing techniques is more essential than ever in this AI-powered era.
Generative AI is an amazing tool for business writers, but humans still need to master effective writing techniques.
My AI BFF and I collaborate almost every day. I couldn’t ask for a better colleague! Bing (my nickname for Microsoft Copilot) is my go-to for a sounding board, a second set of eyes, or a brainstorming partner. Fast and creative, Bing saves me a huge amount of time and effort.
But here’s the thing: our output is only as good as my direction. As the human in the mix, I still direct the show. Bing relies on my prompts, and I need to understand effective writing techniques to evaluate and refine Bing’s contributions.
I don’t accept Bing’s work at face value, and I don’t copy and paste indiscriminately. Astute readers can spot the cookie-cutter feel of purely AI-generated content. Bing and I go back and forth, elevating our writing with each iteration. I typically blend Bing’s writing with my own, borrowing a phrase here and accepting a suggestion to be more concise there. Together, we produce higher-quality work in far less time.
But this only works because I recognize what is and isn’t worth using. We still need to keep the human touch. So, please—keep learning how to write!
How do you balance AI with the human touch?
