Turning Numbers Into Narratives: A LEGO® Case Study in Storytelling
We partnered with the LEGO® Group’s Canada Market team to deliver a session during a two-day offsite conference. The thirty participants included their Sales, Marketing and Operations team members.
The client asked us to design a three-hour storytelling course that was relevant, interactive and immediately actionable for:
Data experts who needed to better engage and connect with their audience, and
Experienced speakers who needed help drawing on evidence to support their stories
LEGO® participants
On the job, participants work with major retailers across Canada to gain more shelf space in prominent locations for LEGO® products. We helped them build meaningful stories to support this mission.
Participants needed to know how to:
Translate data into meaningful information that’s easy to understand
Get to the point quickly and clearly
Manage unexpected questions or situations
We blended and customized two of our 90-minute webinars: Telling Stories With Data and Speak on the Spot. Learn more about our approach to customizing.
LEGO® shared real-world sales and marketing data with us so we could create relevant before-and-after examples and exercises.
In addition, our client created a scenario to promote LEGO® movie toys. They predicted a big demand for these toys, but they worried about having sufficient supply when demand spikes. The challenge was to convince internal decision makers to prioritize producing these toys, and convincing buyers to dedicate shelf space.
During the session, participants collaborated in small teams to craft meaningful stories from actual company data that would engage audiences and persuade stakeholders to act. The energy in the room was electric as teams created their stories and shared them with each other.
Feedback from the sponsor:
“We received good feedback from the session in my team, and we have done the practice exercises. I keep pointing the team to the material for making sure the slides, emails or presentations they are building are easy to understand for the audience. They appreciated a lot that it was universally tailored … and it being related to their day-to-day work.”
“Overall we had a great experience with Wavelength and would hire again for future trainings.”
